The Largest Municipal Solar System in Texas: PSAP
The San Antonio Public Safety Answering Point is a 24/7 emergency dispatch center managed by the San Antonio Police Department and partner agencies to handle 911 calls and text messages. Separate facilities also support regional fire and emergency medical coordination, making reliable energy essential to these critical public safety operations.
The facility features the largest municipal solar system in Texas. Its 1.19-megawatt solar canopy offsets approximately 77% of the building’s annual electricity consumption while providing 249 shaded parking spaces for employees.

Rooftop Solar at Ron Darner
The Ron Darner Parks and Recreation Headquarters is home to San Antonio’s largest rooftop solar installation to date and marks the halfway point of the City’s municipal solar program. Its 1,814 panels provide 997.7 kilowatts—just under 1 megawatt—enough to power approximately 76 homes for a year while reducing the facility’s energy use by 67%.
The project is expected to save about $130,000 in annual utility costs, delivering immediate benefits while supporting a more efficient and resilient city. Those ongoing savings can be reinvested in City facilities and community spaces, making the installation one of the most visible examples of SA Climate Ready in action.
